Cucumber Water Recipe

We all know how important water is to our bodies. Sometimes it can be tough to drink enough water, however, I’ve found a wonderful way to make water so much more inviting and delicious. Cucumber water!

While cucumber water is wonderful there are many ways you infuse water to give it a wonderful flavor as well as making it easy and more fun to drink throughout the day.

Here’s the cucumber water recipe ~ it’s so simple!

Get a pitcher of water.

Slice cucumbers thinly and add them to the water. (I peeled mine because I got them at the store and they were covered in wax.)

Then add slices of lemon, and even some mint if that sounds good to you.

Put the pitcher in the fridge and let it get nice and cold. The water will have a wonderful taste and you’ll also be reaping the health benefits of lemon and cucumber!

I was really surprised at how fresh and light the water tasted once infused with cucumber. It’s really quite delicious! I enjoy drinking my cucumber water out of one of my favorite fancy wine glasses. It takes the whole experience to the next level. Who says you need to go to a spa to treat yourself well. :)

You can make infused water out of just about anything you want. Here are a few more ideas on how to make fruit infused water.

fruit, berries, lemon, lime, tangerine, you can even add fresh herbs to the mix.

The fun thing is it’s delicious and a total blast to experiment with flavor combinations. You can’t get this wrong… it’s going to be delicious, no matter what you do. :)

Dr Oz also has a recipe for an infused green tea. He calls it “weightorade”. It’s really simple to make and simply uses green tea as the base of the infusion instead of plain water. Here’s what you’ll need:

8 cups of green tea, brewed

1 tangerine, sliced

handful of mint leaves

Once you’ve brewed your tea, add the mint leaves and tangerine slices to the tea. Put the pitcher in the fridge and let it mingle over night… this will allow the flavors to mix and mingle and be delicious! This is not only a delicious, healthy drink it’s also said to boost your metabolism which is always good. :)

One quick tip on infused water….

It’s best when made and drank the same day. The water can become cloudy if you leave it overnight. To keep it fresh and delicious, drink your water the same day you make it.

I’d love to hear about the infused waters you’ve made? Have you tried cucumber water? Let me know in the comments, and join us over at facebook for more tips and ideas!

Jack-o-lantern Pumpkin Juice

Today my husband and daughter carved our pumpkin, and made quite a nice jack-o-lantern! My husband was kind enough to save me all the cut out pieces, and insides ~ we’ll be roasting the seeds. I saw that big bowl of raw pumpkin and thought to myself… I wonder if I can make pumpkin juice!

After a little looking around online I decided it certainly wouldn’t hurt to try. Here’s what I came up with.

Pumpkin Juice Recipe:

A few cups of pumpkin pieces, including the stringy bits from the inside
3 red apples
a shake of cinnamon
a shake of ginger
a shake of nutmeg

Recipe for Tomatillos

Yesterday I was at my mom’s house and she had a bunch of ripe chard and a few ripe tomatillos on the vine. She grew the tomatillos to make green salsa, but it’s been SO hot and dry here… nothing grew until now, and 3 little tomatillos do not a bowl of salsa make.

But ~ the do make a great addition to a lovely green juice. :)

Tomatillos are actually a fruit ~ they are used as a vegetable though. They resemble little green tomatoes, but they have a papery sheath around them. When you go to use the tomatillo [...] Continue Reading…

Beetroot Juice: Do the Benefits Outweigh the Side Effects?

On the journey of juicing we know it’s wise to use a variety of vegetables and fruits. When we juice veggies of all colors we end up getting vitamins, minerals and nutrients from across the spectrum, and we end up drinking a truly well rounded diet.

When we start out juicing it’s easy to stick with the things we already know, the things we like, the things we are familiar with. However, once you start getting the hang of juicing you’ll start to get a little more adventurous, and a little more willing to try newer, more colorful things.

That’s where [...] Continue Reading…

Strawberry Banana Smoothie ~ A Fun and Delicious Way to Get More Fruit In Your Diet

Strawberries were recently in season, and when they’re in season, and reasonably priced I buy as many as I can. The first thing I do with them is decide how I want to make a strawberry banana smoothie. There are so many simple smoothie recipes and each one has its own flavor. I love smoothies because they are so simple and packed with good for you nutrients. You don’t need a juicer to make a smoothie… you don’t even need a great blender. We’ve got a cheapo blender from Walmart that we’ve had for years, and it does a [...] Continue Reading…

Renewing Our Decisions

I noticed last week that I was slipping…

A diet pop here, a piece of candy there, then a holiday weekend filled with BBQ and yes, even some beer.

Here it is Tuesday and I’m feeling a little lethargic and have gained a pound or so. I have a few options… some better than others, but I KNOW it’s time to get back to my everyday choices.

What I loved about juicing, and the juice reboot was the fact I no longer ended up thinking about food every minute of every day. In fact, I was thinking about food a lot less [...] Continue Reading…

Quinoa Salad with Rainbow Veggies

This delightful salad was the first thing I made with Quinoa. If you’re not familiar with Quinoa, here’s some quick facts.

Some facts about Quinoa

You pronounce it KEEN Wah.

A cup of quinoa will give you around 127 calories, 2 grams of fat, 23.4 grams of carbohydrates (2 of those being fibre), and 4.5 grams of protein.

Quinoa is commonly thought of as a grain, probably because of how we use it, however it’s actually a relative of leafy green vegetables, like spinach and Swiss chard.

Unlike most grains, which contain an incomplete source of protein, quinoa provides the full spectrum of nine essential amino acids.

Quinoa is [...] Continue Reading…

After the Fast… The Big Weigh In Dilemma

I finished my juice fast a few weeks ago. I lost 9 pounds during my 5 day fast, and gained 3 back as soon as I started eating solid food. This was to be expected. I quickly lost that weight again, and have been continuing to lose as I keep walking in this journey.

Once I finished my juice fast I debated pretty heavily about how often I should weigh myself. One part of me said once a week, the louder part of me said every single day.

The loud part won.

It’s been very interesting, because I can almost immediately see [...] Continue Reading…

Changing Your Mind… And Your Diet

I’ve been working with Kate West ~ the author of Breakthrough Juice Fasting. She’s been involved in juicing, and juice fasting much longer than I have… and she’s taught me some pretty amazing things.

The one I’d like to talk about today is “adding”. My whole life, and all the diets I’ve ever tried have always revolved around “not eating” this or that or the other thing. It was always so hard to stick with, because you know just like a kid, if you tell me I can’t have something it’s the only thing I ever think about until I [...] Continue Reading…
